I grew up eating this dish for breakfast during the winter months. One of the great aspects regarding this recipe is that it is very versatile – it doesn’t have to just be a mush or breakfast cereal. You can add it to salads, soups, breads, or whatever else you want. The berries turn out with a chewy texture & a rich warm nutty taste.4 c. water
1 1/2 c. whole wheat
1/2 t. salt
Add ingredients & bring to a boil. Cover & turn heat to low. Allow to cook for 1 hour. Drain off excess liquid.
Serve with honey & milk. Bottled peaches take this over the top.
Note – this is great to make in the evening & refrigerate overnight. Simply microwave the desired amount for 1-2 minutes for a hearty hot breakfast cereal.
This can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 weeks.
